A MIND FOREVER VOYAGING THROUGH STRANGE SEAS OF THOUGHT, ALONE

This is my second blog.

My first blog chronicled my experiences over three years caring for my dad as he lived through and finally died from Alzheimer's. That is the book that is for sale.

This second blog kind of chronicles of life, what it is like to start your life over in your late 50's. After caretaking, you are damaged, file bankruptcy, and the world doesn't care what you did. After 8 months of unemployment, you wake each day knowing the world doesn't want you. Finally you do find a job, 5 weeks before homelessness, but doing what you did 30 years ago and getting paid what you did 30 years ago. So this is starting over.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape finding oneself in the ranks of the insane.

WELCOME BACK MY FRIENDS TO THE SHOW THAT NEVER ENDS

I know most of my imaginary readers are very intelligent people who keep up with what is going on or going down in this country.  Going down is a cool 70's term, oh wait, it means something else now, never mind.  But I thought I would take some time to explain what is going down in health care, Obama Care, and our Senate.

Very simply, let me explain why health insurance premiums have skyrocketed over the past three years.  For those who bought their own health insurance policies, we typically would buy policies with large deductibles; say 2500, 3000, 5000, or even 10,000 dollar deductibles.  By doing that, our monthly premiums, even in our 50's, were below 300 bucks a month.  What it meant was when we went to the doctor with a cold, sticking a knife through our finger pitting an avocado, getting a physical with blood tests, we paid out of pocket for those services.  In all my years, only ONCE did I ever blow through a deductible, in 2004.

That is what insurance was for, not for every little dinky thing, just for those major issues.  Now if you had a business or other job related insurance, those your company paid for entirely, until the late 1980's and you'd walk around talking about some surgery that didn't cost you anything, your chiropractor didn't cost you anything, blah blah blah.

Over time, all those things that didn't cost anything really started costing insurance companies a lot of money so they started raising rates and businesses started passing those increases down on the employee, and then every two years they would change insurance companies because insurance companies would offer low rates to get a business then start raising those rates so back and forth things went.

Enter ObamaCare.

So here is why those who are buying their own insurance have seen their 5k deductible policy that was costing them $250 bucks a month go to over $500 a month in the past two years.  ObamaCare decided that certain medical stuff should be covered, every year, in spite of deductibles, so you get a free physical, free colonoscopy, free breast stuff, free cervical screenings, free free free.  And stupid people believed it was free.

Nothing is ever free, except bad advice.

So insurance companies started passing those free things into the monthly premiums and suddenly your premiums have doubled and now those premiums are about to double or more again, if you insurance company will even cover you, many are getting letters stating, 'thanks for all your money over the years, but we no longer want you as a client".

Now Senator Cruz, who will be running for president in 2016 even though he technically isn't eligible either, like Obama wasn't, but now democrats will suddenly find that section of the Constitution while republicans will forget that section; has spent the last 24 hours giving a very good tear down of ObamaCare on the senate floor till Harry Reid told him to shut up.  See, the problem is that congress has to approve a continuing resolution so the government can keep spending money but republicans are willing to do so but not fund ObamaCare, the dems are going to let the government shut down and blame the republicans, and this has all been planned for the past year or longer by Obama and Reid.

See, the reason they need to pass a continuing resolution is because no appropriations have been voted on by the senate this year.  There are appropriation bills for military and all the other areas but Reid hasn't allowed any of them to come to a vote so we would reach the point where Congress would be forced to just vote to continue spending money.  And when these moments in time happen, the media lapdogs all support the democratic position that republicans are trying to shut down the government and kill old people, kill soldiers, kill children, kill puppies, and any other heart tugging emotional response they can think of while republican think tanks come up with the response; "no we're not".

One good thing about a government shutdown is this fall the government has scheduled a whole series of 'tests' for terrorism which ironically always seem to correlate to an actual event taking place, like on 9/11, Boston Marathon, etc.  So if you are living in Zone 3, I think it is, and they are planning a power failure, gee, I wonder how that is going to work out for you?  Then again, it could be worse, Houston has a nuke attack planned.  Wasn't Houston the city that got nuked in Independence Day?  Hmm.

So here is the point of all of this blathering by the unemployed blogger.  The whole thing is a show.  It was planned for over a year for the government to be shut down and republicans blamed.  ObamaCare is designed not to work so that a single payer national health care system can eventually be installed.  ObamaCare is designed to be so frigging expensive to anyone trying to buy insurance that everyone will be forced into the exchanges.  Businesses will have no choice but to drop all insurance benefits for employees.  That in and of itself is not a bad thing, it would make health insurance a lot cheaper if people bought health insurance and it were sold like car insurance or home owners insurance.

Oooh, just got a bad picture in my head of Progressive Health Insurance and
Flo wanting to give me a hernia test, yuk.

Okay, where was I, oh yea, the show.  In the end, this is what all the show is about: should people buy health insurance in a free market environment or should we have national health care like the rest of the world, otherwise known as Europe?  Of course, anyone paying attention knows that Europe's countries are pretty much watching their health care system go broke.

Is there a solution that will satisfy both?  How about this: Medicare for everyone.  Medicare is funded with a 10% retail sales tax.  State run, not federal government run.  A 10% sales tax on all goods and services.  Medicare for everyone.  Now, everyone should understand medicare doesn't pay 100% of everything, so the free market can sell medicare supplement insurance; it is much cheaper than regular health insurance.  Now everyone is happy, everyone is pissed, and everyone is covered.  Businesses no longer will have to spend hours a week managing their health care plans, it is no longer a benefit businesses will provide.  The result is settled, business can start hiring again, the economy booms.

Discuss.
